Thailand’s exports beat forecast in October, to exceed 2024 target

THAILAND’S exports grew in October at the fastest pace in three months, beating analysts’ forecasts, as the commerce ministry anticipated strong final-quarter growth would see its full-year target surpassed.

Exports, a key driver of South-east Asia’s second-largest economy, rose 14.6 per cent in October annually, well above a forecast 5.2 per cent rise in a Reuters poll, and followed September’s 1.1 per cent rise.

Exports are expected to grow strongly in the last quarter of 2024 and increase by 4 per cent for the year to beat the ministry’s target of 2 per cent, said Poonpong Naiyanapakorn, head of the Trade Policy and Strategy Office.
“We haven’t adjusted our target but will beat it,” he told a press conference.

Exports rose 4.9 per cent in the first 10 months of 2024 from the same period in 2023.

Shipments will be supported by the recovery of industrial sectors in key trading partners, relaxed global monetary policies, growth in farm and food product exports during the holiday season, and reduced logistics costs, the ministry said.
Poonpong said he was not concerned if the United States takes action on countries which it has trade deficits, which would include Thailand.

“We are preparing. We not worried because that will apply to all countries, not just our country,” he said.

The commerce minister planned to travel to the United States early next year to discuss the matter with US officials, he said, adding: “We will negotiate”.
As Thailand is home to a number of US companies, exporting goods to the United States would benefit them, Poonpong said.

President-elect Donald Trump on Monday pledged tariffs on the United States’ three largest trading partners, Canada, Mexico and China.

In October, Thailand’s exports to the United States, its top market, jumped 25.3 per cent annually, while shipments to China increased by 8.5 per cent and to Japan by 7 per cent.

Exports last month were boosted by strong growth in shipments of technology-related products, particularly computers, equipment, and components, the ministry said.

Imports rose 15.9 per cent in October from a year earlier, stronger than a forecast rise of 6.5 per cent in the poll, resulting in a trade deficit of US$790 million for the month. REUTERS

ညအချိန်တွင် ဒေသအများအပြားကို ပစ်ခတ်ခဲ့သော ရုရှား၏ဒရုန်း ၇၃ စင်းတွင် ဒရုန်း ၅၀ ကို ယူကရိန်း လေကြောင်းကာကွယ်ရေးတပ်ဖွဲ့က ပစ်ချခဲ့ပြီးနောက် ဇာလန်းစကီးက ယခုကဲ့သို့ ပြောကြားခဲ့ခြင်းဖြစ်သည်။

"အခုတစ်ပတ်ထဲ ယူကရိန်းမှာ နေ့စဉ်နဲ့အမျှ လေကြောင်း အချက်ပေးသံတွေ ကြားနေရပါတယ်"ဟု ဇာလန်းစကီး က တယ်လီဂရမ်တွင် ပြောကြားခဲ့သည်။

ရုရှားသည် လွန်ခဲ့သည့် သီတင်းပတ်က ပဲ့ထိန်းဝေဟင်ဗုံး အလုံး ၈၀၀ ကျော်၊ တိုက်ခိုက်ရေးဒရုန်း ၄၆၀ ခန့်နှင့် အမျိုးအစားမျိုးစုံ ဒုံးကျည်အစင်း ၂၀ ကျော်ကို အသုံးပြုပြီး ယူကရိန်းကို တိုက်ခိုက်ခဲ့သည်ဟု ၎င်းက ဆိုသည်။

"ယူကရိန်းက လက်နက်တွေ စမ်းသပ်တဲ့နေရာ မဟုတ်ပါဘူး။ ယူကရိန်းဟာ အချုပ်အခြာအာဏာပိုင် လွတ်လပ် တဲ့ နိုင်ငံတစ်နိုင်ငံပါ။ ဒါပေမဲ့ ရုရှားက ကျနော်တို့ လူတွေကိုသတ်ဖို့ အကြောက်တရားနဲ့ ထိတ်လန့်မှုတွေကို ဖြစ်စေဖို့ ဆက်လက် လုပ်ဆောင်နေဆဲပါ"ဟု ၎င်းက ပြောသည်။

ကိယက်ဗ်ကို ပစ်မှတ်ထားသည့် ရုရှားဒရုန်း ၁၀ စင်းကျော်ကို ၎င်း၏လေကြောင်းရန် ကာကွယ်ရေးတပ်ဖွဲ့က ဖျက်ဆီးနိုင်ခဲ့ကြောင်း ယူကရိန်းစစ်တပ်က နိုဝင်ဘာ ၂၄ ရက်တွင် ပြောကြားခဲ့သည်။

ထိုတိုက်ခိုက်မှုကြောင့် အပျက်အစီး သို့မဟုတ် ထိခိုက်ဒဏ်ရာရသူ အခြေအနေနှင့် ပတ်သက်ပြီး သတင်း ထွက်ပေါ်လာခြင်း မရှိသေးကြောင်း ကိယက်ဗ်၏ စစ်တပ်အုပ်ချုပ်ရေးအဖွဲ့က ဆိုသည်။

Boosting reputation of Bagan through hot-air balloon experience

The hot-air balloon ride services in Bagan ancient city, often referred to as the heart of Myanmar, are available every year to boost the image of Bagan to the world.
In the dry season, Myanmar hosts local and foreign travellers like ASEAN countries, and the tourist arrivals to Mount Popa and Bagan are the highest. Bagan was crowded with the start of the Thadingyut Festival in October and is still receiving a high number of tourists in November. Meanwhile, the visitors can enjoy the beauty of Bagan from the Bagan viewing tower (Nan Myint Tower) and designated mounds and the hot-air balloon companies offer services to enjoy breathtaking views of the city from the sky.
The ASEAN countries have many world cultural heritage sites, but they do not have several land areas to view the scene with balloon rides. Meanwhile, Bagan boasts 3,822 ancient pagodas, stupas and temples, and the tourists like balloon rides as they can enjoy the views of the whole city from the sky.
The hot air balloon ride services are available for both local and international tourists in the Bagan region to enjoy Myanmar’s ancient cultural heritage, including pagodas, temples, statues, and the region’s natural beauty like picturesque scenes of winter morning, Ayeyawady river, mountains, fields and forests, ancient pagodas featuring artworks of AD 9th century.
“We offer hot-air balloon rides to share the beauty and cultural heritages of Bagan to the tourists and to lure more travellers as part of the development of the tourism industry. BOB company has been offering balloon rides since 1999, and now it reaches 25 years. There are over 500 flies from the Thadingyut Festival, October to date. The service is available until 31 March. Although some ASEAN countries have balloon ride services, they cannot be comparable to the beauty of Myanmar’s Bagan. Every tourist who took a balloon ride commented positively on the cultural zone’s natural beauty. We warmly welcome all to visit Myanmar to fully enjoy the beauty of Bagan where the ancient cultural heritages are concentrated,” said an official of Ballooning Over Bagan.
Four companies offer balloon rides every year, and they launch balloons depending on the number of passengers. The balloon’s compartment can hold 8 to 16 passengers and experienced foreign pilots fly the balloons. Local and foreign travellers can take a cheap balloon ride.
Moreover, these services can promote tourism and create job opportunities for vendors and locals.
