Homeland Security officials confirmed a report by the Washington Post on Thursday that ICE ordered staff to place ankle monitors on all people enrolled in the agency's Alternatives to Detention program "whenever possible."
Tricia McLaughlin, the assistant secretary for the Department of Homeland Security, reposted a Post reporter's X post about the article with a stock photo of an ankle monitor.
"If you are in America illegally, you may be 'shackled' with a GPS ankle monitor," McLaughlin wrote.
