Yangon-Kawthoung-Ranong container shipping generates $60M in 5 months

New Myanmar-Thailand border trade route to and from Yangon-Kawthoung-Ranong with a container shipping system earned about US$60 million, according to the Central Committee on Trade Facilitation.
The Yangon-Kawthoung-Ranong container shipping launched at Myanmar Industrial Port and The Myanmar Terminal Port TMT in June 2024 to conduct border trade with Myanmar and Thailand. As of October 2024, the border trade value has totalled $59.996 million.
Starting from March 2024, Myanmar has exported over 1,767 tonnes of freshwater fish to foreign markets with 17 container ships through Aungmingala Port in Kyimyindine, Yangon.
The Trade Department under the Ministry of Commerce permitted container shipping to and from Yangon-Kawthoung-Ranong on 11 April, according to export-import bulletin 1/2024, to ensure smooth border trade. Exporters and importers are required to strictly adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the Trade Department notified. — NN/KK
