Meeting held to address online scams, gambling in border areas

A meeting on combatting online scams and online gambling in border areas was organized in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
State Administration Council Member Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, who is also Chairman of the Supervisory Committee on Prompt Legal Action and Deportation of Foreigners Who Enter Myanmar Illegally, attended the meeting, together with relevant officials.
Speaking at the meeting, the Union minister said the online scams are connected with financial fraud, human trafficking, drugs, forced labour and money laundering. The foreigners who face difficulties are recused and transferred to their respective countries. Although some entered the country illegally through some neighbouring countries, the government did not take action on humanitarian grounds and bilateral relations between the countries.
He then mentioned the online scams and online gambling combating operations between Myanmar and China, the need to carry out measures with shared responsibility among the country of origin, transit and arriving country, and the access to basic infrastructure, electric power, basic foodstuffs and internet connection from neighbouring country by the scammers, the foreigners who establish infrastructure and make investment, establishment of Police Cooperation Centre and Trilateral Cooperation of Myanmar-China-Thailand, and arrangements to draft action plan by organizing a Task Force of these countries.
Then, Chief of Police Police Lt-Gen Win Zaw Moe of the Myanmar Police Force, who is the committee secretary, explained legal actions taken against online scams and online gambling, exchange of information via the police channels, cooperation with international law enforcement organizations in combatting online scams and recuse work for foreigners who face difficulties in the country.
After hearing the reports of attendees, the Union minister concluded the meeting. — MNA/KTZH
