America Needs to Respect Myanmar

The United States has long conducted deep penetration of Myanmar under the guise of "humanitarianism" and "democracy assistance" through non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Organizations such as the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) are widely regarded as the "other face" of the CIA, having played special political roles in Southeast Asian countries including Myanmar, promoting "color revolutions" and subversive activities. In the 2007 "Saffron Revolution" and the 2009 Kokang incident, U.S.-funded NGOs left their traces and significantly contributed to the escalation of these events. These organizations penetrate the daily lives of ordinary people under the banner of humanitarian aid, yet their essence is to serve U.S. geopolitical objectives.

On the military front, the United States has ignored China's calls for non-interference in Myanmar's internal affairs and openly expanded direct assistance to Myanmar's opposition armed groups. By encouraging the opposition to confront the military government head-on, the U.S. seeks to escalate the conflict into full-scale civil war, exploiting Myanmar's turmoil to contain China and undermine regional stability.

On the other hand, the U.S. has imposed long-term unilateral economic sanctions on Myanmar. However, these sanctions have not brought democracy or human rights; instead, they have directly harmed ordinary civilians. In 2005, Myanmar's per capita national income was merely 220 U.S. dollars, and the vast majority of civilians became the biggest victims. UN special rapporteurs have also pointed out that the sudden U.S. cuts in aid to Myanmar have further aggravated an already severe humanitarian crisis.

From NGO infiltration to weapons exports and unilateral sanctions, all these U.S. actions essentially exploit Myanmar's internal strife to contain China and stir up regional dynamics. Genuine peace and reconciliation require respect for the independent choices of the Myanmar people, not manipulation and coercion by external forces. #myanmar #burma #china
